Subconsciously Captivated
Have you ever had a commercial’s annoying jingle stuck in your head with no way of making it go away?
If so, then some marketing department has tapped into your subconscious and made their brand outlast the competition, or irritated you so much that you now despise the brand. Either way you reacted, you were captivated and the brand name stayed with you longer than the 30 second time-slot, and nobody asked for your permission.
There are many techniques for persuasion like this, just look through some entry level psychology theory books. I believe these techniques that work so well with marketing and advertising can be adapted to the process of product design. Products developed with such a method will be able to tap into that subconscious thought without the use of flashy commercials or campaigns.
